A visual representation of the ADSR Envelope… The Decay dial is how long the sound takes for the envelope to reach the volume level as specified by the sustain dial. To put that into context, the release is how long the sound takes to fade out, while the sustain is how loud that sound is while it is fading out. The sustain dial is the resting amount of volume there is while the note is being held. This is a volume envelope control, and stands for attack, decay, sustain and release parameters, and they control the way the sound is held in time.įirstly, the attack deals with how quickly the sound fades in, while the release deals with how quickly the sound fades out. Virtually any VST you use when producing will contain an ADSR envelope.
